![]() Puppets of New York is part of a multi-sited collaboration between The Museum of the City of New York, The International Puppet Fringe Festival NYC, Teatro SEA, and The Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational Center, which includes the exhibition Puppets of New York: Downtown at The Clemente (August 11 – September 30), at 107 Suffolk Street. The Museum is a space whose main objective is to exhibit, document and preserve the memory of the activity of puppeteers, companies, artisans and creators. The center is located in Midtown, the citys arts district. It is one of the few puppet museums in the world. The center focuses on three areas: performance, education and museum. Jim Henson and Julie Taymor, Basil Twist and Theodora Skipitares, Ralph Lee and Pura Belpré, Great Small Works and Teatro SEA are just some the influential puppeteers featured in Puppets of New York, an exhibition poised to bring joy and awe, live performances and panels, workshops and movies to people of all ages. This innovative program originated through the Jim Henson Foundation and is supported by the Museum of the Moving Image. The Center for Puppetry Arts, located in Atlanta, is the United States largest organization dedicated to the art form of puppetry. Puppets traveled with migrant communities from across the globe as they made their way to the city. Like other New Yorkers, they both enriched the metropolis and were transformed by it, as they encountered the heady mix of other puppetry traditions, practices, and languages that also made New York City home. From Punch and Judy to Oscar the Grouch from Lamb Chop to The Lion King from Lunar New Year to the Thanksgiving Day parade, the marionettes, shadow figures, and rod and hand puppets of New York have regaled our stages, studios, and streets. They have been broadcast all across the globe, and over time have reshaped the puppetry traditions of many cultures. All participating artists will be paid an artist fee and will be offered free rehearsal space at The Center at West Park.Puppets of New York explores the extraordinary, surprising, and diverse history of New York City’s quirkiest residents. Together with their cousins from abroad, these two main characters from old Dutch puppet plays are the museums host and hostess. Residency meetings will be in person at The Center at West Park. Meetings will be Septemto Apwith breaks for Election Day, Thanksgiving, and December holidays. The 2022-2023 residency meetings will take place on Tuesday evenings, 6:30-9:30 PM. The 2023 Object Movement Puppetry Festival will be March 20 - Apat The Center at West Park. Puppet Museum in Chrudim The largest collection of puppets in the Czech Republic can be found in the historical town of Chrudim in East Bohemia where the Museum of Puppet Cultures is based. Curated by Maiko Kikuchi, Rowan Magee, Marcella Murray, and Justin Perkins, Object Movement supports the development of new puppetry and object theater by artists in the NYC metro area, culminating in an annual festival of short performances.Īpplications for the 2023 Object Movement Puppetry Festival are now open as of Jand are due by 5pm on Monday, July 18, 2022. It houses a vast collection of material artefacts, runs different activities for families and school groups and actively engages in developing the field of puppetry research, conservation and restoration know-how. Object Movement Puppetry Festival is an annual presentation of new short works developed in residence at The Center at West Park. The museum department was established as a part of the Theatre with the permanent exhibition, located at the Ljubljana Castle. The Passport to Puppetry admits four to the museum exhibits OR a 25 off.
